    How to Remote Play PS4 Games on Android

    Video games on PlayStation can be addicting, and if you want to take them on the go, you now have the ability to with the official Sony PS4 Remote Play app for Sony Xperia Android devices.
    All you need to get started is a PlayStation 4, a Sony Xperia Android smartphone or tablet running Android 4.4 (KitKat) or greater, and access to the same network as your game console.
    Your phone and PS4 have to be on the same Wi-Fi network, so this isn't for when you are away from home.

    Setting up PlayStation For Remote Play

    The first step to taking your favorite PlayStation games on the go is to enable the functionality on your PlayStation 4.

    Follow the steps below to ensure that your game console is ready to start streaming to your Xperia device:
    1. Turn on your PlayStation 4.
    2. Navigate to the Settings Menu.
    3. Under Settings, scroll down to Remote Play Connection Settings.
    4. Ensure that the Enable Remote Play checkbox has a check in it — you can toggle the option with the Xbutton on your controller.

    Now that your Playstation is set up and ready to stream, you must download the PS4 Remote Play app from the Play Store. Follow these instructions for the device you want to stream content.

    The PS4 Remote Play app for Android is only compatible with Sony Xperia branded smartphones. Other Android devices, such as Samsung Galaxy smartphones, will not work with this application.
    1. Begin by downloading, then launching, the PS4 Remote Play app on your Android device. You can obtain the official Sony app from the Play Store.
    2. Upon launching the PS4 Remote Play app, you are given the option to register a PlayStation 4 DUALSHOCK controller with your device. Select either Skip or Register depending on your preference.
    3. You will be told that your PlayStation 4 can stream to your mobile device, select the Next button to continue.
    4. You will be prompted to sign in to your PlayStation account — be sure to sign in with the same account that is present on your PlayStation console.
    5. Once you have signed into the service, the PS4 Remote Play app will begin searching for a console on the same Wi-Fi network.
      At this time, your PlayStation must be turned on and you must be signed into your user profile.
    6. Once the console has been found, you will be prompted to enter a code from your PlayStation on your Xperia device.
      Access the needed code from your PlayStation: Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Add Device.
    7. If the code is entered successfully your Android device will connect to your PlayStation 4 and you can begin streaming your favorite games.

    Troubleshooting Problems

    If you can't properly connect to your PlayStation 4 from your Xperia Android device, take a look at these hints and tricks to get everything working:

    • Network Connection: If your PlayStation is having trouble communicating with your smartphone, be sure that both devices have a strong connection and are on the same network.
    • PlayStation Settings: Check your PlayStation's settings, and ensure that the Remote Play functionality is enabled using the steps provided above in this tutorial.
    • PlayStation Account: Be sure that you are signed into the same Sony PlayStation account on both your console and Xperia device.
    • Restart: If all else fails, attempt to restart both your smartphone and PlayStation devices to see if the issue clears up as a result.

    PS4 Remote Play Android Hack

    A modification of the original PS4 Remote Play app from Sony is currently available on the internet that claims to provide functionality to all Android smartphones. We recommend against downloading any unofficial apps from outside the Google Play Store to avoid the possibility of malevolent malware.
    Additionally, our team has tested the PS4 Remote Play hack and were unable to get the modified software running as Sony has released an update, crippling its functionality for the time being.
